Fic Rec Friday: Free for all!

Hi all,

for this week's Fic Rec Friday, there is NO THEME.

You are allowed to go hog-wild and just recommend any Destiel fic that you're feeling enthusiastic about. Self-recs and WIPs and orphaned works and abandoned works - whatever's clever!

Make sure you mention WHY you're recommending it along with a link to the fic, to help people know whether it's something they might be in the mood for.

Thanks all, and I hope you find a great fic to read this weekend.

(Don't forget: you can click on the "fic rec Friday" tag on the left side of the community page and see all previous entries, meaning you can scroll through a lot of recommendations to find something that interests you!)

Going with a WIP theme!

In the absence of a theme this week, I'm going to make my own theme, so there! The theme is best WIPs posting right now (and on a regular schedule).

The Android: Strap in because this one is a wild ride. It starts with Cas being an android working at a brothel and Dean being sent in as a service technician to fitch some glitches. It escalates from there in ways you'll never be able to predict. The twists and turns this story takes are insane and I'm already dreading its end, even though there are 20 chapters still left to post. (20/40 chapters posted, posts weekly)

Dark Blue (Have You Ever Been Alone in a Crowded Room?) by the same author posts twice weekly and is an incredibly intriguing canon-adjacent fic that pits hunter Dean against shifter Cas. Cas is searching for the hunter who killed his mother, but finds himself increasingly intrigued by Dean and unable to leave his side. What's going to happen when Dean finds out the truth? Does he already suspect?? We don't know yet, but some Dean POV chapters are coming up soon, so now is a great time to jump in. (7/30 chapters posted, posts twice weekly)

The Risk Is Drowning: Dean and Cas find themselves at loose ends. Both have recently been through a breakup, Dean has lost his job and is also struggling with his mother's cancer diagnosis. Through it all, the two of them find comfort in a burgeoning pocket friendship via Discord. This is such a heartfelt, delightful story that will have you in turns cackling at the writers' wit and seething with anger at anyone who would dare to hurt these two marshmallows. (14/26 chapters posted, posts twice weekly)

The Good Samaritan: Another fic that's both hilarious and poignant as it follows a Dean and Cas who are at an inflection point of their lives. Dean is a wounded veteran and Cas is a newly divorced ex-pastor. Together, they navigate trauma, queerness and the agony of being perceived. (Also, Cas is an adorable drunk.) (2/6 chapters posted, posts weekly)

The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter: In this alternate version of the 1950s, homophobia is not a thing, but Dean and Cas still face some obstacles to their potential relationship, as Dean is married to Alastair. The yearning is off the charts as factory supervisor Cas returns again and again to the diner where Dean works, trying to be close to him without crossing any lines. Except lines are soon being crossed left and right, and something's going to have to give. (3/? chapters posted, posts weekly)

Stull Prison Blues: Dean is newly behind bars and finds himself assigned as cell mate to the notorious Castiel Novak. Castiel's rumored crimes are heinous, but he's also deeply protective of Dean (and keeps Tupperware under his bunk, so he can't be all bad?), and their relationship soon turns into more. Mind the tags and strap in. (3/16 chapters posted, posts weekly)
